Job description

Design, build, and operate core pieces of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering
Improve Elasticsearch components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines
Maintain the cluster coordination system to keep performance high while preserving safety and liveness properties
Push the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes Elasticsearch can handle
Investigate performance and concurrency issues and propose solutions
Support support engineers with harder problems
Own operational investigations end-to-end until performance or stability issues are resolved

Core technologies

Java

Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms
Strong skills in core Java, including standard data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features
Deep technical proficiency in algorithms
Experience building large-scale distributed systems rather than using off-the-shelf services
Experience building and debugging complex features with broad impact across multiple machines
Ability to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design and cross-team collaboration
Experience managing projects involving multiple engineers
Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and transition between projects, codebases, or teams based on business priorities
Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team through asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication
